Discovery Plus is a variable annuity contract that lets you invest among 14 professionally managed Prudential money market, bond, and stock portfolios, plus a fixed-rate option. The table above shows the approximate relationship between the categories in terms of total risk and potential reward. Each portfolio within these general categories incurs its own risks, and the value of each portfolio will fluctuate based on the performance of the underlying investments. For further discussion of the risks associated, please see the prospectuses.
To protect your loved ones, Discovery Plus offers a death benefit that guarantees your beneficiaries will receive either the greater of your account value or the total amount you've invested in the event of the annuitant's death prior to the payout phase (plus any bonuses credited, and minus any previous withdrawals).
Withdrawals are subject to a surrender charge in the first six years. In each contract year, you can withdraw earnings plus up to 10% of your total contract value (calculated as of the date of the first withdrawal made that contract year) without paying a withdrawal charge. This amount is referred to as the "charge-free amount". Withdrawals made during the accumulation phase are treated first as a taxable distribution of gain. Withdrawals made prior to 59½ may be subject to a 10% federal income tax penalty.
You receive a consolidated personalized statement annually with performance information for each investment in your Discovery Plus account.
